2011 Annual Report 2008 Annual Report 2007 Annual Report 2008 Annual Report 2011 Annual Report

Children’s programs continue to be one of our keystone areas of service. The Tuesday and Wednesday preschool Storytime sessions are drawing many new, young families to the library.  We are observing that the attendees are young, with many babies through three year olds learning about the joys of reading. We are confident that the Storytime children will be ready to start school with the sound background from reading, arts and crafts and socialization. The Summer Reading Program served over 2,200 children. There were 74 programs offered and the children read a total of 2,510 hours over the seven week duration of the program. We celebrated their accomplishments with a family ice cream social Open House at the library in mid-August.

The monthly adult Book Discussion group continues with their loyal following of readers committed to sharing the love of the printed word. We heard over and over that the participants are challenged by the group to read books that they would not have chosen for themselves.

We are proud to report that the completion of the climate control system brings to close Phase II of our Master Plan for the facility. We have been working toward this goal for over twenty years. With financial assistance from the City of Johnstown, grants from Senator Farley and New York State, and community supporters, we have accomplished a great deal.  The library is accessible throughout and has modern mechanical systems and windows. With the help of volunteers, we also have charming landscaping to compliment the building. The community has much to be proud of.

We wish to thank the Friends of the Library for their support and encouragement.  Most significantly the Friends subsidize our children’s programs and computer purchases.  Memberships and a few fund-raisers make this support possible. Speaking of fund-raising, our 11th annual Storybook Sundae and Basket Raffle yielded $7,700 for the library. We are grateful to all of the volunteers and contributors of this important event.

Once again our statistics tell us what the staff thought; we were busy in 2007!  Computer usage and circulation increased by 3% and attendance by 12%. I would like to express my  thanks to the staff and Board of Trustees for their dedication and commitment to the Library.

Respectfully submitted,
